A step-by-step system to become a cold DM machine
Let’s say you’re starting from scratch.
No audience.
No warm leads.
No inbound traffic.
No cash to run ads.
What do you do?
You send cold DMs.
That’s exactly what Clifton Sellers did.
He's a Hypefury user, and I had the chance to talk with him during a recent masterclass he hosted for our subscribers.
When he started, he had a full-time job, two kids, and zero runway.
But he made time to send around 100 cold DMs on 𝕏—every day.
No hacks. No fluff. Just focus and consistency.
At first, he got ghosted.
Then one replied. Then another. Customer after customer, the revenue piled up till he was making $30,000/month — just from cold DMs.
I've cracked the Twitter algorithm.
Here's how you can gain followers and earn $30,000/mo with one simple strategy:

This was a couple of years ago. Today, he runs his content agency, and you can rely on AI and other tools to make the process way more effective.
Here’s how you can become a cold DM machine 👇
1. Create a List of Prospects
Start by creating a focused list of ideal clients who are active on 𝕏. Begin with 10-20 prospects.
This is just your starting point, a way to put the machine in motion. Over time, you’ll expand that list as your process becomes more efficient and your systems support higher volume.
If possible, pick decision-makers at companies that would clearly benefit from your service. And even more important, prioritize those who regularly post or comment on 𝕏.
The Lead Magnet is supported by Inboxs.
Inboxs turns 𝕏 and Instagram DMs into your sales CRM. Now with a brand-new sales pipeline:

You can move your leads across a Kanban board to track the progress of your conversations. You can define specific steps based on your sales funnel:

2. Your Engagement Plan
Engage with each prospect:
Like their most recent posts
Leave relevant and meaningful comments
Ideally, don’t do this only on the day you want to cold DM them. Do it at least for a couple of days before you reach out.
They’ll notice you because you’re helping them boost their content on the feed. Plus, consistent interaction expands your visibility, and it builds familiarity between you and your leads.
3. Use Grok to Craft Your First Message
If possible, send your first DM after at least one interaction with your prospect (e.g., they liked or replied to one of your comments).
When the time comes, use Grok to personalize your initial message (hat tip to Brad Smith for inspiring this AI-driven approach).
For example, prompt Grok with: How can I start a chat with [PROSPECT] to compliment him on something amazing he did in the past 2–3 months?

Ensure your message is entirely about them. No sales pitch, no call-to-action. Just genuine appreciation and interest. Follow the DOs and DON’Ts of cold DMs.
Grok will provide the first draft of the DM. You can use it as it is, or fine-tune it based on what you know about your prospect or your previous interactions.
Just make sure to optimize for friendships, not customers. Friendships lead to partnerships, referrals, and long-term deals.
4. Track and Follow Up
After you send your first DM, your prospect should enter your CRM.
Log interactions and responses for clear visibility
Set timely reminders to follow up at the right moment
Segment leads based on their responses
You can use Inboxs to track every conversation and set reminders for your follow-ups:

Inboxs makes it easy to stay organized, boost your reply rates, and help turn cold DMs into warm conversations.
This means less manual effort, higher response rates, and more closed deals.
